  1. This is the release note file for PC Gopher III, version 1.10,
  2. released 30 July 1993.

  4. We're finally running into some unsolveable memory issues; some
  5. directories in gopherspace are just too big to display (in other words,
  6. they're larger than 64K).  If you run into this, there's not much you
  7. can do...closing windows may make more memory available, though.

  14.   * latest version of the U of MN TCP/IP driver, fixes several range-check
  15.   error bugs
  16.  
  17.     * fixed the range-check error @071F:07F9 problem that was being
  18.     generated by some servers that use long display strings for gopher items.
  19.   Thanks to Laurent Guillope' for helping to track this one down.
  20.  
  21.   * found a solution for the range-check error @1C64:0390 -- upgrade to
  22.   version 2.2 of FTP Inc.'s PC/TCP, or don't use PC/TCP at all.  That's
  23.   the best I can do for right now...this one has been pretty much
  24.   impossible to find.

  26.   * fixed the jumpy scroller bug.  You should be able to choose items from
  27.   a directory listing as the list is being built.

  29.   * fixed several bookmark-related bugs:

  31.         - memory leak when adding a bookmark

  35.       - some searches didn't work, and would cause run-time errors.

  51.   * BOOKMARKS ARE NOW STORED IN A TEXT FILE.  this means that you can:

  53.     a) copy them to a macintosh and feed them to TurboGopher (in theory,
  54.     anyway...I haven't had a chance to test it yet...)

  56.     b) edit them to your heart's content
  57.  
  58.     c) mess them up royally

  60.   if you edit the bookmark file, make SURE that:

  62.            a) you're using an editor that DOESN'T REPLACE TABS WITH SPACES

  64.              b) the file is being saved as PLAIN ASCII TEXT (not a WordPerfect
  65.              file or some such grotesquerie )

  67.   or your bookmarks won't work.

  69.   There's a new version of BMKCVT that will much up an old-format .BMK
  70.   file (PC Gopher III v1.00 and up) and produce a text file with your
  71.   bookmarks in it; it comes with instructions.

  73.   * when creating a bookmark, the default text in the "Add Bookmark"
  74.   dialog is set to the name of the object you're about to bookmark,
  75.   rather than nothing

  77.   * THE .REZ FILE IS NO LONGER USED.  Gopher now reads a PLAIN TEXTFILE
  78.   called GOPHER.INI. There's a little widget called REZCVT that will eat
  79.   your .REZ file (PC Gopher III v1.00 and up) and produce a configuration
  80.   file; it comes with instructions and is pretty simple to use.

  82.   You can still override some items in the .INI file with commandline
  83.   switches but the @CFGFILE hack is gone.  The switches are the same
  84.   as in the last version, but may change shortly to be consistent with
  85.   the parameter names in GOPHER.INI.

  105.   This will insure that, regardless of previous network settings, gopher
  106.   always asks for an address from the BOOTP server.

  112.   * if there's a non-single-window mode browser on the screen, and you
  113.   switch to single-window mode, you have to open a new browser to get
  114.   the "Go Back" button to appear

  116.   * in single-window mode, a failed query shouldn't close the window

  118.   * in single-window mode, the list of items is sometimes incomplete
  119.   until the scrollbar has been moved.

  123.   * empty directories shouldn't be displayed

  125.   * MS-DOS and 64k segments.  This bug is unlikely to be remedied in the
  126.   near future.
